Great meal. Enjoyed small plate appetizers of coconut shrimp and plantains with guacamole and salsa. Followed by variety of large plate mains. Everyone was happy with their selections. Lava cake and flan desserts finished off the meal. Look forward to going back!
My wife and I have been to Melaza many times and are never disappointed. Do yourself a favor – order the roasted pork shank. It is always spectacular. We ate at Melaza again last week. My wife had the pork shank – as always great. I had the charbroiled skirt steak. I was not disappointed. The meat was seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection.
We look forward to returning!
When we walked in, on what seemed a busy but not exceedingly so evening, we waited near the host station for about five minutes while staff passed by before we were acknowledged by the bartender who said the host would be with us soon. In about another minute the host came to greet us and check on our reservation. This was a rough start and a bad first impression.
Had the mahi special very good will be back again.
All in all, an okay evening at a restaurant that seemed to be having some issues, whether it was just an 'off night' or not. Melaza seems to be striving to be an upscale restaurant, and while the food is there, the service isn't.
The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable, with the perfect amount of attention.
The rest of the evening went fairly well though. The food was good, we shared four different 'small plates' and enjoyed all of them. The atmosphere was nice, if a bit loud, and the service was acceptable, though not exemplary.
The skirt steak with whipped potatoes is to die for. Great service nice quiet atmosphere.
